Paecilomyces lilacinus (Thom.) Samson belongs to the genus Paecilomyces, which belongs to the order of Hemiptera, Neurospora,Neurosporaceae and Paecilomyces. This bacterium is widely distributed in all parts of the world and has the advantages of high efficacy, wide host range and easy cultivation, especially in controlling plant pathogenic nematodes. For more than half a century, many experts and scholars at home and abroad have conducted extensive and in-depth research on this bacterium, and have achieved a series of research results in biology, ecology, mass cultivation, pest control efficiency and field application.

To plant pathogenic nematodes

Paecilomyces lilacinus is an effective parasite of Meloidogyne incognita and Nemacystus albicans eggs, and its egg parasitism rate to Meloidogyne incognita is as high as60%~70%. It is effective in preventing and controlling various nematodes. Its hosts include root-knot nematodes, cyst nematodes, golden nematodes, xenodermoid nematodes, and even intestinal roundworms of human beings and animals. It is the most promising biocontrol agent for preventing and controlling root-knot nematodes.The inhibition mechanism of Paecilomyces lilacinus on root-knot nematodes is that after Paecilomyces lilacinus contacts with nematode oocysts, biocontrol bacteria hyphae surround the whole egg in a viscous matrix, and the hyphal ends become thicker. The surface layer of the egg shell is ruptured due to the activities of exogenous metabolites and fungal chitinase, and then fungi invade and replace the egg shell. It can also secrete toxins to kill nematodes.

According to literature, Paecilomyces lilacinus can parasitize Hemiptera litchi bug and rice black bug. Homoptera leafhoppers and brown planthoppers; Termites of Isoptera; Coleoptera sweet potato weevil, Lepidoptera tea silkworm, lamp moth, etc.

To plant pathogenic bacteria

Paecilomyces lilacinus 36-1 strain has antagonistic effect on plant pathogenic bacteria. Tests on corn scab, wheat scab, cucumber
anthrax, cotton wilt and rice bakanae showed that the inhibition rates of the body fluid of Paecilomyces lilacinus strain on its
mycelial growth were 80.22%, 80.50%, 77.71%, 75.30% and 61.36% respectively. The inhibition rate of green and green mold expansion
was 65.97% when orange flour was treated. After batch treatment of citrus, the good fruit rate was 78.44%, 54.44% higher than that
of the control.

1. Promote plant growth

2. Produce a variety of functional enzymes

This bacterium can produce abundant chitinase, which can degrade chitin. It can promote the hatching of nematodes and increase the parasitic rate of Penicillium on nematodes. In addition, it can also produce cell lysase, glucanase and silk protease. Galvez-Mariscal research shows that the activities of protease, glucanase and amylase in high-efficiency strains are 1.2-4.2 times and 20-120 times higher, and these enzymes promote cell division.

3. Degradation effect

Somaseknar study found that Paecilomyces lilacinus can promote the dissolution of insoluble phosphate. Laboratory studies confirmed that the solubilization effect of Paecilomyces lilacinus reached 30%, and that of other nematodes reached 20%~40%.Similar studies also show that Paecilomyces lilacinus can also promote the decomposition of many chemical polymers (such as pesticides, tannery wastewater, etc.), which proves that Paecilomyces lilacinus has certain environmental protection effect.
