Bypass conductor assembly on Floating Roof tanks
The “Bypass conductor assembly on Floating Roof tanks” (RGR for short) is designed to discharge the static electricity of floating roof storage tanks. It is used as the equipotential bonding between the floating roof and tank shell. The lightning current and bound charge will be effectively and rapidly dissipated to the earth upon a lightning strike. Compared with the conventional bypass conductor, it will effectively decrease the possibility of a lightning-induced fire, and make it more reliable and safe.

Working Principle
The RGR can be mounted directly to the rim of the tank. The retractable cable is fixed to the floating roof foam dam, as the lowest impedance connection between the tank shell and the roof.
The retractable cable length is always the minimum wherever the floating roof is, thus it has the smallest inductance, and will effectively dissipate the lighting current and bound charge to the ground. Restrain the instantaneous overvoltage between the floating roof and tank wall, prevent the flashover (ARC) in sealing ring space, and eliminate the ignition source for the floating roof tanks.
It is easy to catch lighting when the floating roof is at the top position. At this time, the extended cable length is the shortest with minimum AC impedance. The lightning bypass can be grounded to prevent the ARC in the sealing ring space.
