Sodium bromide is easy to absorb moisture in the air and agglomerate, but not deliquescent. Sodium bromide is easily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is neutral. Sodium bromide is slightly soluble in alcohol and can react with dilute sulfuric acid to generate hydrogen bromide. Under acidic conditions, sodium bromide can be oxidized to release bromine.

Application

Sodium Bromide is used as a completion and workover fluid either by itself or with sodium chloride, bromide, or with Zinc bromide. operational fluids for offshore oil wells, such as well finishing liquid, well repair liquid, stationary liquid etc. Its main advantage is in formations containing carbonate and/or sulfate ions which give rise to precipitation in the presence of other multivalent completion or workover fluids.
