Diffraction gratings are periodic spatially modulated to the amplitude or phase (or both) of incident light through a periodic structure. Diffraction gratings can not only be used in spectroscopy, but also widely used in metrology, optical communication, information processing and other fields. There are many types of diffraction gratings, which can be divided into shining gratings, holographic gratings, rectangular gratings and so on.
AR augmented reality glasses can use diffraction gratings (also known as embossed gratings) to implement light waveguides. Compared with geometric optical waveguides, the use of embossed light grids can make AR glasses thinner and lighter, more suitable for applications in the field of consumer electronics. In order to maximize the efficiency of light coupling diffracted in the direction of the eye, the incident grating of AR lenses is best used slanted grating or a triangular blazed grating, but both of these gratings are very difficult to process.
