WHAT IS XPS?

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam is a rigid insulation that's also formed with polystyrene polymer, but manufactured using an extrusion process, and is often manufactured with a distinctive color to identify product brand. Extruded polystyrene foam begins with solid polystyrene crystals. The crystals, along with special additives and a blowing agent, are fed into an extruder. Within the extruder the mixture is combined and melted, under controlled conditions of high temperature and pressure, into a viscous plastic fluid. The hot, thick liquid is then forced in a continuous process through a die. As it emerges from the die it expands to a foam, is shaped, cooled, and trimmed to dimension. This continuous extrusion process results in a unique foam product with a uniform closed-cell structure, a smooth continuous skin, and consistent product qualities, qualities unequaled by other insulation types.

WHAT IS EPS?

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam is a closed-cell insulation that's manufactured by "expanding" a polystyrene polymer; the appearance is typically a white foam plastic insulation material (the likes of which can be found as merchandise packaging). Expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) is a plastic material that has special properties due to its structure. Composed of individual cells of low density polystyrene, EPS is extraordinarily light and can support many times its own weight in water. Because its cells are not interconnected, heat cannot travel through EPS easily, so it is a great insulator.

  • Izocam Foamboard products that are subject to TS 11989 – 1 EN 13164, hold the CE mark according to the Construction Products Directive (305/2011/AB).
  • Its declared thermal conductivity is λ ≤ 0,035 W/mK. (at 10°C)
  • Depending on the declared thermal conductivity values, Izocam Foamboard products are in the thermal conductivity group of 030 and 035.
  • Water vapour diffusion resistance factor μ = 90 - 100.
  • The temperature of use is between -50/+75°C.
  • It has 100% closed porous cell structure that keeps the water out.
  • It does not have a capillary absorbency.
  • It has high compressive strength.
  • Even though it is resistant to acidic and basic chemicals, it is sensitive to chimney gases, methane group gases and chemicals of gasoline group, eter, esther and amine group.
  • It is sensitive to ultra violet (UV) rays of the sun. It should be protected from direct sun light.
  • It is classfied as “E” with respect to TS EN 13501-1.
