1. Process Description
The process flow of upward casting is shown as figure 1.

The raw material will be lifted to the melting furnace for melting by the lifting hook, the feeding rate is dependent on the productivity of the upward casting machine, the molten copper liquid will be covered by wood charcoal for oxygen isolation. After melting, the molten copper liquid will flow to the holding furnace for thermal insulation, the surface of molten copper is covered with reducing agent to prevent the copper from oxidation. Finally, the copper liquid will flow to the crystallizer for crystallization of copper rod, then, the copper rod will be pulled upward by the upward casting machine, and subsequently the copper rod will pass through the discharging conveyor, branching rack (to avoid copper rod twine), tension bracket (to control copper coil winding speed), take-up machine.
2. Equipment Description
The upward casting equipment mainly be composed of conjoined furnace of two 80kw melting furnaces and one 80kw holding furnace, upward continuous casting machine with 10 casting heads, branching rack, take-up machine, electrical components and water distribution system of crystallizer.
2.1 Conjoined furnace
The conjoined furnace contains two melting furnaces and one holding furnace, it is mainly composed of furnace cover, upper furnace body, furnace frame, inductor, operating cabinet, main contactor and controllers.
The furnace chamber is made of light weight insulating brick, quartz sand ramming material and refractory brick. A flow passage is under the partition wall which is built between the melting furnace and holding furnace, the molten copper liquid will pass the flow passage to the holding furnace from the melting furnace. Both for the melting furnace and holding furnace equipped with an industrial frequency inductor which is composed of shell, melting hook, iron core, coil, water jacket and refractory.
2.2 Upward continuous casting machine
The traction mechanism is composed of two sets of AC servo motor and traction rollers, the upward casting speed is adjusted by the AC servo motor. The panel equipped with clamping wheel group driven by the main driving shaft, each group can work independently, the servo motor passes through the reducer to transfer the motion to the main drive shaft.
The upward continuous casting machine equipped with a liquid level tracking system which will ensure the stability of the immersion depth of the crystallizer in the molten copper liquid, therefore, the copper rod can be produced continuously.
The crystallizer can rapidly cool the molten copper liquid into copper rod, each crystallizer can be replaced and controlled independently without affecting the production of other crystallizers.
3.3 Branching rack
Th branching rack is above the upward casting machine, it is mainly composed of platform, holder, vertical guide wheel and roller. The branching rack enables the copper rod to be smoothly imported into each group of double-head take up machine without interference.
2.4 Take-up machine
The two-heads take-up machine is composed of traction roller, winding device and take-up reel. each take-up machine equipped with two motors and two reducers for winding two copper rods. There is a take-up reel on both sides, the upward casting speed and take-up speed is synchronized, the frequency converter is controlled by the take-up limiting device to realize the synchronization of upward casting speed and take-up speed, the copper rod will be took-up in the reel automatically.
2.5 Induction system
The induction system is composed of coil, water jacket, iron core and melting hook. After the application of electricity, a large current is generated in the melting hook under the action of electromagnetic induction, as a result, the heat generated in the melting hook will melt itself and the charging material.
The voltage regulation cabinet of the inductor is composed of voltage regulation device and capacitor compensation device, the power of the conjoined furnace can be controlled and adjusted by these devices.
2.6 Temperature detecting system
The temperature detecting system will measure the temperature of molten copper and cooling water, the value will be indicated in the digital display thermometer respectively.
