Graphene is a two-dimensional carbon nanomaterial composed of a carbon atom and a sp2 hybrid orbital to form a hexagonal honeycomb lattice.
Graphene has excellent optical, electrical and mechanical properties, and has important application prospects in materials science, micro-nano processing, energy, biomedicine and drug delivery. It is considered to be a revolutionary material in the future.
Physical properties:
Internal structure
The internal carbon atoms of graphene are arranged in the same way as the monoatomic layer of graphite with sp2 hybrid orbitals.
Bonding, and has the following characteristics: carbon atoms have four valence electrons, three of which generate sp2 bonds, that is, each carbon atom contributes an unbonded electron in the pz orbital, and the pz orbital of the neighboring atom forms a plane with the plane. The π bond can be formed in the vertical direction, and the newly formed π bond is half filled. Studies have confirmed that the coordination number of carbon atoms in graphene is 3, the bond length between every two adjacent carbon atoms is 1.42 × 10-10 meters, and the angle between the bond and the bond is 120°. In addition to the cellular layered structure in which the σ bond is linked to other carbon atoms into a hexagonal ring, the pz orbital of each carbon atom perpendicular to the layer plane can form a large π bond (similar to the benzene ring) that penetrates the polylayer of the full layer. Therefore, it has excellent electrical and optical properties.
Mechanical properties
Graphene is one of the materials with the highest strength known, and it also has good toughness and can be bent. The theoretical Young's modulus of graphene is 1.0TPa, and the inherent tensile strength is 130GPa. The reduced graphene modified by hydrogen plasma also has very good strength, and the average modulus can be as large as 0.25 TPa. [7] Graphite paper consisting of graphene sheets has many pores, so graphite paper appears very brittle. However, functionalized graphene is oxidized, and graphite paper made of functionalized graphene is extremely strong and strong.
Thermal performance
Graphene has very good thermal conductivity. The pure defect-free single-layer graphene has a thermal conductivity of up to 5300 W/mK, which is the highest thermal conductivity carbon material, higher than single-walled carbon nanotubes (3500 W/mK) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (3000 W/mK). . When it is used as a carrier, the thermal conductivity is also up to 600 W/mK. [7] In addition, the ballistic thermal conductivity of graphene can shift the lower limit of the ballistic thermal conductivity of carbon nanotubes per unit circumference and length.
