The Matatabi tree is related to the Kiwi tree and grows in Asia, especially in China and Japan. 

The dried twigs of this tree have a very special effect on cats. There is a substance in it that cats like that helps them relax. Matatabi contains Actinicin and matatabi lactone. These are alkaloids that affect nervous stimulation in the brain in Felidae. It is often seen that cats who are relaxed by themselves have less interest in the sticks than cats who are under stress.

Cats suffering from unrest, frustration and lifelessness can benefit from Matatabi. Puur Matatabi offers distraction and rest in uncomfortable situations such as during a trip, relocation, after family expansion, admission to a guesthouse or at the vet. Excessive stimuli can manifest themselves in different ways in cats:

• Aggressiveness
• Destructiveness (scratching furniture)
• Lots of meowing
• Licking themselves a lot or pulling out hair (which increases the chance of hairballs forming!) 

Application:

You can give Matatabi (supplementary animal feed) as a toy. Cats play with the baton, some chew it or bite it to pieces. Many cats roll and rub in places where the stick or remnants of it have been. After playing, the cat is calmer, the pupil shrinks and people often wash and sleep. If the bark is removed from the stick, the effect is even greater.

Dosage:

Do not give more than two to three times a week because otherwise habituation occurs and the sticks become less interesting take the stick away once the cat has finished playing. Consult veterinarian first in combination with medication. If problems occur, stop giving and consult your veterinarian.

Side effects:

There are no harmful side effects. Some cats can respond to the sticks in a very special way. For example, there were owners who reported that their cat seemed 'ecstatic' with pleasure and some cats drool (slightly). This is harmless.
