Propolis Uses:

1. For musical instruments: Propolis can be as a varnish ingredient.

2. For food & medicine: Propolis is used by manufacturer to make propolis gum.

3. For car wax: Propolis is used to bring about a chemical reaction to convert fats and oils into automobile wax during application.

Propolis Composition:

The composition of propolis varies from hive to hive, from district to district and from season to season. Normally propolis is dark brown color, sometimes it is green, red, black, white hues, depending on the sources of resin found in the particular hive area.

Propolis contains the polyphenols called flavonoids. Polyphenols are antioxidants that fight disease and damage in the body. Flavonoids are as a form of protection. 

 

Propolis properties

1. Reinforce the structural stability and provide thermal insulation to the hive

2. Reduce vibration

3. Make the hive more defensible by narrowing the existing entrance, sealing holes etc

4. Prevent diseases and parasites from entering the hive, to inbibit fungal and bacterial growth

5. Mitigate putrefaction within the hive
