Air Suspension is a type of automotive suspension that uses air springs instead of conventional steel springs. Computer-operated vents on the air springs, suspension sensors, and an onboard air compressor allow the system to maintain ride height and vary the suspension's ride characteristics.

Air spring function:

 A. The air spring has a nonlinear characteristic, and its characteristic line can be designed into an ideal curve as needed;
B. The stiffness of the air spring varies with the load, so the natural frequency does not change under any load, so that the spring device has almost constant performance;
C. good performance of absorbing high frequency vibration and sound insulation;
D. Through the height control valve, the working height of the air spring can be kept constant under any load, and the spring can have different heights under the same load, thus facilitating adapting to various structural requirements;
E.The stiffness of the air spring can be selected as needed by changing the volume of the additional air chamber, and can be selected to be low;
F.The same air spring can withstand both axial and radial loads, and can also transmit torque. By adjusting the internal pressure, different bearing capacity can be obtained, so it can adapt to various load needs.

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by BMW. The first generation of the X5, with the chassis code E53, made its debut in 1999.
