ND Filter

ND stands for Neutral Density. In photography and optics, a neutral density filter or ND filter is a filter that reduces or modifies intensity of all wavelengths or colors of light equally, giving no changes in hue of color rendition. The purpose of a standard photographic neutral density filter is to allow the photographer greater flexibility to change the aperture, exposure time and/or motion blur of subject in different situations and atmospheric conditions.

 

Effect of using ND filter

Photo shooting is an art of light and shadow. To well control light and shadow, we need sorts of auxiliary tools whereas ND filter plays an important role.

1.Blur the background scene

When shooting portrait or specific object, normally it needs to keep away from varied background. Or under strong light, normally it needs f/8 shutter speed or lower aperture. In order to reduce depth of field, high shutter speed and large aperture is necessary and now an ND filter is needed.
