Product Description:

Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells. They are called reticulocytes because of a reticular (mesh-like) network of ribosomal RNA that becomes visible under a microscope with certain stains such as Brilliant Cresyl Blue or new methylene blue.

In 1949, Brecher introduced the new methylene blue method for identification of reticulocytes based on precipitation of ribosomal RNA by the cationic dye. This has now replaced other methods and is the recognized procedure for the quantitation of reticulocytes in peripheral blood.
