Tartaric acid Introduction:
Tartaric acid, 2, 3-dihydroxysuccinic acid, is a carboxylic acid, chemical formula C4H6O6. Found in a variety of plants such as grapes and tamarind. It is also one of the main organic acids in wine.
As an antioxidant added to food, it can give food a sour taste. Tartaric acid is widely used as a beverage additive and as a raw material for the pharmaceutical industry.
Tartaric acid usage:
Tartaric acid is often used as a mordant and tanning agent, and also as a reagent for the separation of racemate basic compounds, used in construction. It is also the acid agent in food additives, acid feeling is better than malic acid, lactic acid and so on. Several of its salts have important applications. For example, potassium sodium tartrate was used in laboratory to prepare Phelan reagent for the identification of aldehyde functional groups in organic molecular structures. Its potassium-sodium salt, also known as Rochelle salt, polarizes its crystals under pressure so that the two surfaces produce a potential difference (piezoelectric effect), which can be made into piezoelectric elements, used in radio and cable radio receivers and pickups.
