When the Hernandez family started the business in the 1930s, the consumption of hams and Iberico products was not yet widespread at a national level. Most of the sales were done in Guijuelo, where buyers and representatives arrived, filled their suitcases and left by train in search of a destination to sell these products.
Times have changed today. The family spirit, tradition and commitment to quality remain, but the size of the market, the profile of the consumer and technical innovations have led to a new concept of production and marketing.
At BEHER we strive to keep up with the pace of the world and thanks to our constant adaptation to the new times, today we have an extensive sales network in Spain and we are present all over the five continents.
Our products can be found in selected restaurants, in the most outstanding markets, in a multitude of gourmet establishments and, on the Internet. But if there is one thing that sets us apart, it is the full
control we have over our production process. In the 1980s, we founded Agropecuaria BEHER, S.L. Since then, we have been breeding 100% Iberico pigs on our own farms in order to obtain the highest quality products, perfectly controlled from start to finish and with all the guarantees of total homogeneity.
BEHER does not stop. The story goes on as the fourth generation begins to take its first steps. We continue working to provide the best iberico products. We are continuosly growing, opening new markets, developing new products... working tiressly but with tenacity and patience.
100% IBERICO - OUR RAW MATERIAL, THE KEY FOR SUCCESS
For more than 30 years we have been dedicated to the breeding of PUREBRED IBERICO PIGS.
We currently have several farms in Spain and Portugal with more than 3,000 breeding dams and 70 sire pigs, all of them Purebred Iberico, as well as our own insemination centre.
At Bernardo Hernandez we have very clear principles when it comes to breeding our own pigs:
- GENETICS "BREED": All purebred Iberico breeding dams and sires are registered in the only herd book that exists today, that of "Aeceriber" (Asociacion Espanola de Criadores de Ganado Porcino Selecto Iberico Puro y Tronco Iberico)
- REARING: Essential for the pig to develop morphologically and
physiologically to grow and develop muscularly, in order to obtain the optimum weight.
- NUTRITION: Controlled through the feed that we produce ourselves on all our farms. The cereal is subjected to specific analyses to control its properties and correct traceability. We have a team of veterinary
nutritionists who design the highest quality formulas.
- SALUBRITY: A comprehensive vaccination protocol on all our farms
prevents diseases. Cleaning and disinfection of the sheds, rooms and
yards where the pigs are kept is another of our sanitary maxims.
- ENVIRONMENT: Taking care of it allows our pigs to be in their natural habitat, the countryside. That is why it is essential for us to respect and maintain it. The pigs need the nature and the nature needs the pigs.
We currently have around 3.000 100% purebred Iberico dams on our farms, which produce approximately 45.000 animals of the same breed factor.
All our pigs are reared free-range and fed with raw materials selected and processed in our own facilities, adapting the diet to each of the
stages of growth.
With this process we guarantee the homogeneidad homogeneity of the breeding and fattening, implementing the same method by the intake of the own resources of the field in addition to the acorns.
Our aim at all times is to ensure maximum hygiene and animal welfare at all stages of growth. For this purpose, we have modern
facilities and perfectly delimited areas for each process, such as a shower area for the animals, calving and breeding areas, pre-montanera adaptation areas, etc.
