Switchable glass has versatile applications which is often used as partitions for meeting rooms, offices, schools, hospitals, or replacing the solid walls for hotel bathrooms, to name a few. Users can simply flip a switch or press a remote-control unit button to switch the switchable glass between opaque or crystal clear transparent in order to offer privacy or see-through spacious environment. One very good example is many of our client's luxurious hotel guest rooms and restaurants have used our switchable glasses as partitions and doors to increase their sense of fashion and improved image of higher class by applying this prevailing material technology to their valuable customers.
Principle
Switchable glass, or more formally switchable transparent glass (STG), is formed by two sheets of glass laminated together with a layer of PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) film through tightly controlled special manufacturing processes. Switchable glass changes the light transmission properties when changing electric field, light or heat is applied. When electric voltage is applied to the electrodes of switchable glass, the electric field between the two panes of glasses causes the liquid crystal molecules in PDLC to align to electric field direction, allowing light rays to pass through the glass and thus change the state to transparent or clear. However, when no electric field is applied, the liquid crystal molecules are randomly aligned causing light ray dispersed, resulting in a translucent or opaque state.

ABTECH has completed customer projects by supplying switchable glasses to well over hundreds of domestic and international five-star hotels, including Intercontinental, Kempinski, Marriott, Westin, St. Regis, Hyatt, Sheraton, Hilton, W, Emmy, Novotel, Borman, Sofitel, Wyndham and many other international chain hotels in Hong Kong, Macau, China, South-East Asia, and all over the world.
