Glyoxalic acid (NSC 27785) is an organic compound that is both an aldehyde and a carboxylic acid. The aqueous solution is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid. , slightly soluble in ethanol, ether and benzene.
It has both acid and aldehyde properties and is used as a raw material for varnishes, an intermediate for perfumes, dyes, plastics and household chemicals; it is also used as a fragrance and fixative for cosmetics.
