1, 2-propanediol is an organic compound, chemical formula C3H8O2, miscible with water, ethanol and a variety of organic solvents. Normal for colorless viscous liquid, almost tasteless, smell slightly sweet.

Propylene glycol can be used as a raw material for unsaturated polyester resins, in cosmetics, toothpaste and soaps with glycerin or sorbitol as a wetting agent. In the hair dye used for humidification, uniform hair agent, also used as antifreeze, but also used in cellophane, plasticizer and other industries.

Application

*1, 2-propylene glycol is an important raw material of unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, plasticizer and surfactant, which accounts for about 45% of the total consumption of propylene glycol. This unsaturated polyester is widely used in surface coatings and reinforced plastics.

*1, 2-propanediol has good viscosity and hygroscopicity, and is widely used as hygroscopies, antifreeze agents, lubricants and solvents in the food, medical and cosmetic industries.

* In the food industry, 1, 2-propylene glycol reacts with fatty acids to form propylene glycol fatty acid esters, which are mainly used as food emulsifiers; 1, 2-propanediol is an excellent solvent for flavoring and pigment. Because of its low toxicity, it is used as a solvent for spices and edible pigments in the food industry.

*1, 2-propanediol in the medical industry is often used to manufacture all kinds of ointments, ointments solvent, softener and excipient, in the medical industry as a mixture, preservatives, ointments, vitamins, penicillin and other solvents.
