Production area of homonymous DOC wines located on the Orobic hills delineated to the east by the Oglio river and to the west by the Adda river.
Castelli Calepio is its geographical center and the origin of the name is Greek, from "Kalòs" which stands for "good" and "Pino" which means "I drink", evidence of its ancient wine making tradition.
Already in 1500, the scholar Girolamo Muzio wrote: "The goodness and abundance of wine gave its name to Calepio, a land more fertile than that of Alcinoo"

The company "Il Calepino" blends in its denomination the oenological and cultural values of the hilly area called Valcalepio.
It was Angelo Plebani, in 1972, who conceived and founded the company, baptizing it with this curious name, inextricably binding the precious bottles and the famous encyclopedic friar.

In the Valcalepio Controlled Designation of Origin area, the Il Calepino company extends its vineyards on morainic terraces
(called Surúe), where the vine has always found a happy home: the draining soil is ideal for obtaining an excellent state of
ripeness of the grapes and therefore wines with an intense, complex and typical bouquet.
