PET is a hygroscopic material. If the moisture content is too high, it will be hydrolyzed under high temperature processing, which will break the PET molecular chain and produce acetaldehyde due to thermal decomposition. The physical and mechanical properties will decrease, and the crystallization rate will increase. The embryo part is crystallized and whitened, which affects the quality of the product. Before the preform injection molding, the PET pellets must be dried to a moisture content of less than 0.005% (50ppm), so that a good non-crystalline transparent preform can be produced. The proportion of recycled materials should generally not exceed 25%, and the recycled materials must also be recycled. Dry thoroughly, the process is continuous.
The characteristics of PET determine that it cannot be recycled through ordinary granulation methods. It must be recrystallized before it can be used. Amorphous PET will adhere to high temperatures. The main purpose of crystallization is to prevent the adhesion of PET during high temperature drying. , The common method is to increase the stirring action while drying or use the airflow to make the PET boil. The temperature continues to rise. When it reaches 120℃, multiple molecular chains with intermolecular interactions are locally rearranged, resulting in spherical crystals, that is, crystallization. The maximum degree of crystallization of PET is about 55%, which can produce orderly crystalline regions.
The crystallization temperature range of PET is 120~140℃, and the crystallization time is 1~2 hours. The crystallization time is inversely proportional to the pre-crystallization temperature. The higher the drying temperature, the higher the drying rate; the shorter the drying time, the lower the moisture content of the raw material after drying. , The drying temperature of agitated crystallizer is usually between 120~160℃. The temperature of dehumidification and drying is between 160~180℃, and the PET is boiled by airflow while drying.
The higher the drying wind speed, the higher the relative speed of PET and airflow, so the drying time will be shortened, but the dust generated by the system will increase accordingly, and the removal of excessive dust must be considered.
The lower the moisture content (dew point) of the hot air, the faster the drying rate of the raw materials, and the lower the corresponding equilibrium moisture of the raw materials. In the actual processing process, considering the processing cost and energy consumption, for preforms or injection molding, for extrusion molding, a dew point value of less than -40°C can satisfy the drying moisture content of the raw material to be less than 200ppm.
