The followings are several common designs of cylindrical roller bearings.The difference  is reflected in the flange design of the inner ring and the outer ring, as well as the structure and material of the cage.

 

NU Design Bearings have a outer ring with two integral flanges and an inner ring with no flanges,so they can accommodate axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing in both directions . Axial fixation can be achieved with the angle ring.

 

 

N Design Bearings have an inner ring with two integral flanges and a outer ring without flanges,so they can accommodate axial displacement of the shaft relative to the housing in both directions.

 

 

NJ Design Bearings have a outer ring with two flanges and an inner ring with one flange, so they are used to axially locate the shaft in one direction. Axial fixation in the other direction can be achieved with an angle ring.

NUP Design Bearings have two integral flanges on the outer ring and one integral flange and a loose flange ring on the inner ring so they are used to locate the shaft axially in both directions.
