Why choose Bamboo as a material?
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. Because it contains naturally-occurring antimicrobial agents, there is no need for using fertilizers or pesticides during its cultivation. Our bamboo is totally organic and wild. A few facts:
* Fast-growing Bamboo is technically a kind of grass, and it grows like grass- sometimes up to three or four feet in one day. This means that there's lots of it, and when it's harvested it grows itself back again quickly enough not to leave a dent in the eco-system.
* Absorbs CO2 Bamboo absorbs greenhouse gases, and releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than trees.
* It keeps alive while serving us Bamboo roots remain in place after harvesting, thereby preventing soil erosion and retaining nutrients for the next crop.
* Chemically untouched It is completely natural. No chemicals needed. No pesticides.
* Job provision Wherever it grows, it is vital to the local economy and to the local culture. In China, bamboo is known as 'the friend of the people'.
* Surprising strength It is a whopping 34% harder than white oak, and 2.5. times more stable than commonly used wood.
Are the bristles biodegradable?
The bristles are the only part of this product that are not biodegradable. They're made of nylon 4/6 bpa free which is still the best way to grant a good oral care. Until today the only 100% biodegradable and efficient option is pig hair, which is a very controversial material, and one that we chose not to use in The Bam&Boo toothbrush. We will continue to work closely with our manufacturers to develop better alternatives. Until then, remove the bristles for proper recycled.
Is the packaging biodegradable?
We wanted our whole product to be ecological, including the packaging. The toothbrush comes in a compostable wrapper made fromplants. The outer box is made from 100% paper and is also biodegradable.
How to recycle?
The handle is made out of 100% biodegradable bamboo and can be disposed in your composting bin or you can give it a 2nd usage(gardening, firewood,..). The bristles are made from nylon 6 bpa free and should be recycled with plastic. We recommend to cut them off or remove them with pliers. All other packaging materials are biodegradable (envelope without plastic, carton without glue, and protection bag made of paper)
