The microstructure of porous materials is determined by the processing conditions, especially the temperature and expansion rate. The structure has two parts: node and small fibril. These "fibers" connect the "nodes". The single axis expansion makes the nodes elongate, and makes the long axis of each node perpendicular to the expansion direction.
The product of this structure is called expanded polytetrafluoroethylene microporous membrane, which can create billions of micropores. This structure makes use of the inherent hydrophobicity (water resistance) and non viscosity of PTFE, and is easy to remove the particles trapped on the membrane surface. It can provide a consistent, temperature and chemical compatible screening of microorganisms and particles for equipment manufacturers. The best combination of air flow and inlet pressure can bring value to most equipment designs.
