The molecular weight is about 29000. Zinc ion is in the coordination environment of deformed tetrahedron. The most important catalytic reaction is the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide (carbonic anhydrides), which makes it proceed rapidly under physiological pH conditions (pH & bcong; 7). In order to catalyze the reaction of h2co3co2 + H2O, the factor of enzyme accelerating the hydration of carbon dioxide is about 10 ^ 7.

Purpose: biochemical research. Carbonic anhydrase is a zinc protein (animogenicity), which has the function of rapid conversion of carbonic acid and bicarbonate ions in red blood cells.
